My upstairs does not cool well with my central A/C. I have thought about using the attic fan at night, with the A/C running to push the hot air out of the upstairs and the attic. Will this help speed the cooling of the upstairs? What about adding window units for supplemental A/C? Any other tips?|||An attic fan is designed to bring air through windows at the main living area so would not do any good for an upstairs.
We have the same problem. Is your attic vented? We set a fan at the bottom of the steps to blow cool air up and then have another at the top to blow it through the room. We also have a portable swamp cooler.
The New Air AF-320 evaporative swamp cooler is perfect for rooms up to 200 square feet. Extremely versatile, lightweight, portable, and easy to move, the AF-320 features wheels for even greater mobility. Oscillating louvers evenly distribute cool air for quick, efficient relief on hot days.
Good luck!
G.G.|||I think that if you use the attic fan, it will do wonders for you. My mom cools her upstairs off at night by turning on her fan in her bedroom, facing out, about 1 hour before she goes to bed. It pulls all of the heat out of her upstairs, and is very comfortable. Good luck!|||try closing all the downstairs A/C vents. this will force all the cool air to go upstairs first, then trickle downstairs. The thermostat is probably downstairs, and it will trip off when the room it is in is at the desired temp. if there are no A/C vents open downstairs, the upstairs will cool down before the thermostat trips.|||have you have your A/C checked lately, as you may know there is filters on the unit and there is the question of the age of your A/C.
the unit works like a fridge, have a Small pump inside that works circulating the gas to the fan system.
if is not the filters have the unit checked, the gas pressure may not be enough to do the Job...|||Never close off vents to force air to another area. An a/c unit must move a certain amount of air across the coil in order to work (usually about 400 cfm per ton) if it dose'nt the coil will freeze up. A window unit may be your best alturnative. You may also check your attic insulation. If you do not have R-38 (18") that will cause your upstairs to get too hot for your unit to cool down.|||Use box fans to get a cross breeze. That works for me.|||A window unit would probably work. But they're loud and not particularly efficient. If the central A/C is old maybe its time to get an new unit.|||add a window unit|||put fans around the upstairs thats what i do|||you could try a fan|||I live in Florida and we use an attic fan at one end of the gable and a vent at the other. The fan is automatic and will come on when the air in the attic reaches 92 degrees. When you cool your attic or crawl space it allows the up stairs to cool more efficently. Hope this helps. It saved us a bundle on our AC bill.
