How can I cool a room in my home with only 1 air regiser?

I have a room that is 18 x 24 that is located upstairs. It is very hot, due to having only one air vent to cool the whole area.

Any way to add vents or just get another source or air conditioning. A window unit is not an option.|||the builder is full of s... a properly designed system would require at least three 6 inch lines to a room that size one between each set of double windows and one across the room|||The builder needs to know that you know he is wrong if you have a building inspections department use have them talk to the builder

|||There is a fan you can get at Home stores that will sit on a air vent and pull more cool air into the room.

Air is just like a liquid though, you can't force that much more in a closed container without providing a means for it to flow out. If you have a forced air AC (If there is a big return vent in the center area of the house) you need to provide a means for the air to get to it, i.e. keeping the door open. The room will heat up because the hot air has nowhere to go.|||open all the windows in the morning and late at night and have a few fans set up to move the COOL air around.|||Cieling fan, box fan, close the shades or black out the window to reflect heat away from the house. Put a piece of styrofaom in the window. The other option is a duct fan installed in the duct to increase the air flow. This is a common problem in houses that were not designed for central air. I recommend leaving the door open at all times.

Last option: have the person who lives in that room move to the basement until this horrible heat wave is over.|||An oscillating fan placed as close as possible in front of the air vent will help a lot. To get the most benefit, run the fan all night to help get the room cooled down for the coming day.
