What is the best type of cool box to buy for camping?

I want a box to keep some meats for BBQs (sausages etc.) whilst camping but wondered what the best type of cool box is %26amp; how long frozen meat would last in a cool box? Or would it be better to store fresh meat rather than frozen? Also want to use it on other occasions for beers etc*. Would need to fit in a small car boot preferably, though I could store it on the back seat when in use.

*Not that the beers would be for me, as I'd be the designated driver!|||Look at Coleman. Always good value and good quality. Can't go wrong. They do small medium and large coolers and iceboxes and they last for years. Find them in outdoor shops, supermarkets, loads of suppliers all round the world.

Don't store frozen meat unless you can keep it frozen. If it thaws don't re-freeze it. Cook it quick.

Thaw all meat and fish fast and cook it right away. Fish is best cooked from frozen.

It turns out better then. We always have loads of it in the freezer.

We live by the sea and my daughter married a fisherman with a lobster boat so lobsters fish and crab are staples for us.

Sometimes in winter we can't get on the sea for a week. Gets rough here.

It's living out of the freezer time then.|||As one person posted, don't expect frozen meat to stay frozen in a ice chest. It must be kept below 32 degrees Fahrenheit, something an ice chest can't do because the ice is already in a state of melting upon usage.

The best coolers are Coleman, Igloo, and Gott. I once thought about buying one of those supersized 150 quart coolers, but they are cumbersome and not easy to stack and store. I would stick with anything between 36 quart and 52 quart, but no bigger unless you are keeping food for a crowd (then maybe a supersize would work, but only be justifiable if it saw repeated usage). Some people sometimes buy a 16 to 20 quart cooler to keep beverages in or stowing a lunch for two or three people.|||Like Jonal said buy Coleman. They make coolers and guarantee to keep food cold for 5 days. Get the biggest one you can fit as this gives you more room for ice. Freeze everything you can before leaving home. Use blocks of ice rather than cubes as they last longer. Taqke a small cooler for drinks that will be opened many times during the day. This helps keep the cold in the main food cooler. Decide what you want to eat for dinner and take it out in the morning to thaw. The less you open the cooler the better.

We went camping for a week with the Coleman Extreme cooler in July. After 5 days the meat was still frozen solid. Add ice as necessary and drain excess water. Keep cooler out of the sun as much as is possible.

If you cannot get block ice for the start of your trip, make your own. Freeze 1/2 gallon or 2 liter bottles ahead of time to use. When they thaw out you have drinking water.|||Get yourself a camping fridge. They are the same size as a coolbox but can be connected to the campsite mains outlets and work very well. We take a coolbox (which we keep cool with freezer packs) and a fridge which we can use in the car - attached to the cigar lighter - or, by using a 20 metre mains lead and camping mains outlet socket block, connect to the camsite mains. As to which brand: I would recommend Coleman and/or Campinggaz.|||altoid tin can
